Plan of the Chanonry of Elgin

For many years, researchers have relied on the Plan of Elgin Cathedral and Precincts which appeared in Sheriff Rampini's famous history of the counties of Moray and Nairn.1 Since there was no alternative, this map was readily and widely used by other authors, without any significant questions being asked about its accuracy. However, recent work has allowed a much more accurate map to be drawn using the results of many years of dilligent research by Dr William Crammond and Rev Stephen Ree. It is this New Map of The Chanonry of Elgin which is presented here. It shows the positions of the manses of all of the dignitaries and ordinary canons of the cathedral along with some of the manses of the many chaplains who served at the cathedral's altars.
